Wexer app goes à la carte; on-demand classes get a ‘passport’ to other apps

Wexer is delighted to announce that, effective immediately, elements of its powerful Wexer Mobile app are now available à la carte.

This move has been made in recognition of the fact that, while some operators will benefit from a white label version of the full, comprehensive Wexer Mobile app, many operators already have an app and don’t want to start again from scratch.

With this in mind, Wexer has created an SDK – Software Development Kit – for the most popular aspect of its app, which also happen to be the ones that most health club apps don’t yet have as they are very costly for operators to create for themselves.

We’re talking about the content sections of Wexer Mobile – specifically the extensive On-Demand group exercise content, with hundreds of fantastic virtual group classes from which to choose.

So, how does it work? Put simply, if an element of any app has its own SDK, it means that element can be extracted from its parent app and dropped straight in to another app.

Taking another step on, what it means is that you – the fitness operator – get to control the user interface (what the end user sees in terms of design, app navigation, branding and so on) as well as the data (the way you use, analyse and store data from the app). You control the front end and the data.

But you get to hand over to us for the back end – the invisible bit – when it comes to exercise content. The moment a user presses ‘play’, it’s over to us to provide and channel the content from our world-class CMS (content management system) via our robust, market-leading digital platform, into your app and onto the user’s screen.

The way we describe it, using the analogy of a car: you design the look and feel of the car, we provide the engine.

Your members will be able to access hundreds of virtual classes led by top instructors from around the world. And if you want to charge a premium for some or all of this, as long as your app has that functionality, that’s fine. Ultimately, you control the environment, and to all intents and purposes it looks and feels like your own content.

But in practice we take the strain on that front, providing world-class content for you in collaboration with all the leading suppliers, and investing in a constant stream of fresh new programmes – and all the supporting technology – so you don’t have to.
